Nigeria’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu has launched a sensitization campaign on Methanol Fuel Technology in the country.

The Sensitization campaign on Methanol Fuel launched in Abuja the nation’s capital is aimed at enlightening Nigerians on the benefits of Methanol fuel as well as its ability to generate over forty million new jobs and create more wealth for the country.

According to the Minister more value chain will be added to Nigeria’s natural resources with the Methanol Fuel inniative.

He therefore called for the domestication of Methanol Technology in line with the Presidential Executive Order 5, adding that this will enable Nigerian Professionals and Entrepreneurs compete with the best in the world.

Dr. Onu further stated that with the introduction of Methanol, manufacturers will use it as a feedstock for several product lines.

Earlier, the Director of Environmental Science Technology in the Ministry, Dr. Peter Ekweozor, said that strategies have been put in place to source for funding to boost the Methanol Fuel Technology value chain in Nigeria.

He added that this Technology will boost Nigeria’s socio-economic fortunes.

The Methanol Fuel Policy is an inniative of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology aimed at adding value to the nation’s gas resources estimated at 199.08 Trillion cubic feet proven reserves as at 2017 and is to expand the chemical industry value chain, replace Kerosene as household cooking fuel, contribute to efficient and effective transportation system, Climate change migration, improve electricity generation and in the process diversify and grow the Nigerian economy.

The Policy is also expected to create an enabling environment for more investment in the oil and gas sector, particular in the downstream sub-sector.

The Methanol Fuel Technology Policy, was developed jointly with The Federal Ministry of Transport, Finance, Petroleum, Agriculture, Power, Environment among others.
