Again, bandits have invaded Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State and abducted 100 students and some teachers.

According to Nigerian Tribune, a resident who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the bandits stormed the premises of the school around 11:00 am on Wednesday when school activities were ongoing.

He said, “As soon as they entered the school they began to shoot indiscriminately and kidnapped over 100 students and dozens of teachers on the spot.

“As I am talking to you now, we can not ascertain how many students both male and female and their teachers were kidnapped during the attack but we saw over 100 students including some of their teachers were chased by the Bandits to an unknown destination,” he added.

As at the time of filing the report, the Police and the Zamfara State Government could not confirm the incident.

It was learnt that while the bandits stormed and kidnapped students and teachers, a prayer session on the current insecurity challenges rocking Zamfara was being held at the Emir of Gusau’s palace with the State Governor, Bello Matawalle in attendance.

Governor Bans Markets, Filling Stations In Zamfara, Says Offenders Risk Being Shot At

Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has announced new measures aimed at tackling banditry in the State.

According to the Governor, henceforth, all filling stations in Zamfara State are banned from selling fuel except in Gusau, the State’s Capital and the 14 Local Government Headquarters. He added that no eligible filling station is permitted to sell more than N10,000 worth of fuel to a single customer.

Similarly, the sale of fuel in jerry cans is disallowed in all filling stations while roadside purchases (popularly known as black market) are entirely banned.”

The Governor further announced that all weekly markets across Zamfara State are suspended but normal market activities of buying and selling for local consumption are permitted to continue with their activities as they are exempted from the ban.

“The Government further ordered that the transportation of livestock to and from the State is henceforth suspended while the transportation of food across the state and outside the state must be verified to authenticate its destination otherwise it will be seized and taken to the orphanage.

“The new rules further include the banning of riding of motorcycles and tricycles from 6 pm to 6 am in the state except the state capital which starts by 8 pm to 6 am everyday. Furthermore, any tricycle that is covered will be stopped to verify its passengers, otherwise it will be apprehended.”
