It was an ugly scene on Wednesday when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS),  stopped first-class monarchs, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Alaafin of Oyo, and Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, from the commissioning of the remodeled Lekan Salami Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan reports the Daily Post.

Dignitaries within and outside the country witnessed the commissioning of the stadium rehabilitated by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.

Accompanied by their aides, the monarchs went to the stadium but the security operatives were said to have given them the condition that they would not go in with all those who were with them.

After waiting for about 30minutes at the entrance, they were said to have left in anger.

Speaking with journalists after leaving the Stadium, the Assistant Director of Media and Communications to Olubadan, Yanju Adegboyega, said it was very annoying for security operatives to stop the monarchs at the first instance.

“Olubadan, Alaaafin of Oyo and Aseyin of Iseyin were at the entrance to access the stadium but over zealous security officers stopped them,” he said.

According to him, the security operatives stopped them from entering the stadium despite the fact that the monarchs showed them their Very Important Personality (VIP) Invitation Cards.

He added, “We were prevented from entering the stadium. The DSS and bouncers did not allow us to enter.

“They said they can only allow the monarchs to enter if they can only go in with just one aide. Olubadan had no option but to leave, Aseyin also followed us.

“Quote me, I am the Assistant Director of Media.”

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, South-West Zone, has congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on the occasion of the commissioning of the remodeled Lekan Salami Stadium.

The party reiterated its description of Governor Makinde as a role model for youths in leadership position and what true governance was about.

The party said this in a statement by Rahman Owokoniran, General Secretary, on behalf of the Chairman, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, and members.

The party described the event as “Governor Seyi Makinde’s historic moment in the annals of Nigeria’s democratic experiment.”

In the PDP statement, pouring encomiums on Makinde, Owokoniran said: “We have never been in a more reassuring time as this, when leaders like Governor Seyi Makinde are redefining governance.

The party, Chairman, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, and every member and lovers of good things are proud of Makinde.

“As we move towards 2023 elections, it is important for the public and electorate to decide between the change that exists only in words and leadership that touches the grassroots.

“Once again, congratulations to Makinde, even as we look forward to more landmarks from his administration.”
