A 400-level student of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt, Damian Okoligwe, has been remanded by a Magistrate Court in Rivers State, for allegedly kîlling his girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300-level student of Biochemistry at the same university.
The Rivers State Police Command had in October paraded Damian Okoligwe, for allegedly kílling his 20-year-old ex-lover for money ritual.
The suspect had reportedly kîlled, dismémbered and sácked the body of his former girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300-level student in the Department of Bio-Chemistry, in the same institution.
The kÍlling was reported at Ozuoba Police Station, by one of Damian’s neighbours, at Mgbu Oba Town, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, under the division’s jurisdiction.
Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt, the state Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, informed that the incident was exposed by a neighbour to Damian, who had gone to the suspect’s backyard and was hit by offensive odour. He reported his experience to the police in Ozuoba.
However, when the matter came up on Monday, the prosecuting counsel appealed to the court to remand the accused based on the gravity of the offense, a request which was not objected to by the defense counsel, O.G. Nweke.
After listening to both counsels in the matter, the Chief Magistrate, Nnenda Obiageri-Onugbum, ruled that the accused, Okoligwe be remanded in the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre and ordered that the case file be transferred to the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice.
Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate Obiageri-Onugbum thereafter adjourned the case to 15th December 2023 for the DPP report.
