Some years ago when my husband and I decided to have a no reception wedding, it was a strange concept (especially to our parents).

I am the first daughter and my husband is the only son, so it was a battle with the parents.

These are the reasons why we chose a no reception wedding…

1. WE COULD NOT AFFORD IT
We were two young people who just finished NYSC, while planning our wedding we had made up our mind not to borrow a dim.
We didn’t want to start our marriage in dept, so we had to plan with our means.

2. WE REALLY WANTED A NICE HONEYMOON
We realized we couldn’t afford a nice honeymoon and a nice reception, we had to pick one.
Spend the money we had on reception which would last a few hours or on a 10 days honeymoon.
We picked the later and I’m glad we made that choice.

3. WE WANTED A NICE HOME
It cost money to make a home beautiful and comfortable, we didn’t want to move into an empty house after our wedding. So most of the money we got before the wedding went into setting up our home.
The reception would be for a few hours but we would live in our home for years.

4. WE WERE NOT TRYING TO IMPRESS OR PLEASE ANYONE
We knew if we wanted to have the kind of wedding that certain friends and family expected of us, it will take us years to get married and we didn’t want to wait that long so we did it simple.

I am not against reception weddings, infact we might have had one if we had the funds. But it is not wise to wait forever to get married or go into dept just because just because you’re trying to impress people.

“On her final note she said”

The marriage is what really matters not the wedding.
